Important Notice: QEnergy Closure – What You Need to Do

If you were a household or business customer of QEnergy, your electricity retail service has officially ceased following the revocation of their operating licenses.

Your electricity supply has not been turned off. To protect consumers, the Australian government automatically transferred all affected accounts to major, stable electricity providers under the Retailer of Last Resort (RoLR) scheme.

Below is exactly what you need to do next, along with the critical phone numbers you need to call.

1. Identify Your New Energy Provider

You were automatically allocated to a specific replacement provider based on your distribution network and state.

  • AGL Customers: If your network was United Energy or Jemena, you went to AGL.
    • 📞 AGL Support: Call 1300 245 001
  • EnergyAustralia Customers: Residential and general business accounts.
    • 📞 EnergyAustralia Residential/Business: Call 133 466
    • 📞 EnergyAustralia Large Commercial: Call 1300 362 466
  • Origin Energy / Other Retailers: If you are unsure which provider took over your account, check your mailbox for written correspondence or look at your banking records for recent direct-debit notifications.

2. What Action Do You Need to Take?

You are under no obligation to stay with the provider you were automatically assigned to.

  1. Review Your Default Rate: The emergency “default” rates from your new provider can sometimes be higher than market contracts.
  2. Shop Around Immediately: You can switch to any other energy company without facing exit fees from your newly assigned RoLR provider.
  3. Compare Plans For Free: Use official, government-run comparison tools to find the cheapest plans available right now:

3. Key Dispute & Ombudsman Numbers

If you have outstanding billing issues, disputes about your final QEnergy account balances, or problems with your new transfer, contact your state’s independent Energy Ombudsman for free dispute resolution:
