FAQ’s

Industry Concepts

Q. What is my NMI?
A: It stands for National Meter Identifier. It's a unique number that you'll need if you change your electricity retailer. Your NMI can be found on the back of your electricity bill.

Q. What is CAC?
A. Community Ambulance Cover Levy – this levy is collected by Electricity Retailers selling electricity in Queensland on behalf of the Queensland Government.

Q. How are electricity prices calculated?
A: There are five groups of organisations involved in supplying you electricity: the generators (power stations); the owners of the high-voltage transmission lines; the low-voltage Distributors whose wires connect to your premises; the Retailer who looks after your account; and the Government.

Each of these organisations charge you for their services. The only area that is available for competition (and therefore price reduction to you) is the retail electricity component. Network, Regulated, or Government charges are set by the Government.
