Energy Saving Tips for Your Home

Lighting

Lighting makes up around 5% of the average energy bill. Switch to florescent light bulbs, they consume 75% less energy.

Appliances

Front-loading washing machines are 15% more energy efficient than top loading machines.
Boiling water on an electric stove can uses 50% more electricity than a jug or kettle. Using a kettle is also quicker.

And everybody’s favourite energy saving tip, turn unused appliances off at the wall. Appliances on standby use up to 10% of your electricity bill.

Hot water

Electric hot water heating make up 30% of the average house hold electricity bill. Set your system on 60 °C and if you have children set between 50-55 °C.

Pools

If possible have your pool connected to a Tariff 31, this will help reduce your electricity costs. Using your filter in off-peak periods (10pm- 6am) will also save you money.
