The Four Stages Of Electricity Supply

Generation companies across Australia actually produce the electricity we all use. They sell their capacity into the national electricity market which covers all States except Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

High-voltage transmission is delivered by Queensland Government-owned Powerlink. Low-voltage distribution – depending on your location – is provided by Queensland-government owned Energex or Ergon. The Government regulates how much they can charge you, and we must collect those charges on their behalf.

The functions and responsibilities of electricity distributors – the organisations that deliver the electricity to your door – and retailers are quite distinct. Irrespective of the retailer you choose, the distributors maintain the physical connection and the quality of electricity to your premises. They also own the electricity meters that measure your usage. It's important to note that as your electricity distributor is responsible for the quality of your power supply, they will provide 24 hour assistance if your power is disrupted. So if you encounter an electrical fault or emergency, please contact your electricity distributor immediately.

Retail is where you have a choice. As your retailer, QEnergy is financially responsible under the law for your electricity supply. Through your account manager, we help manage your connection with the network as well as undertaking your billing and metering. Your bill includes retail electricity costs as well as regulated network charges.
