All About Metering
Q. What is a Smart Meter and what is the difference from a basic meter?
A: A meter measures the amount of electricity you use, so we can bill you correctly.
There are essentially two types of meters:
• a basic meter that requires manual reading by a Meter Data Provider — this type is usually read once a quarter.
• a smart or interval meter that measures and stores your usage data at frequent intervals. They can be manually or remotely read, more often than basic meters.
Q. When is my next meter reading?
A: The back of your bill will show when the meter was last read, and when the next reading is scheduled.
Q. Why is my usage estimated?
A: In some cases, the meter reader is unable to obtain a meter reading at your premises. Some reasons why your meter could not be read might include: meter located indoors, locked gate, blocked access or guard dogs. In those circumstances, we will estimate your usage.
